We offer complete wellness care, for young, adult, and older animals alike here at Wisdom Animal Clinic. Wellness visits include a thorough exam, screening tests based on your pet’s individual needs and lifestyle, and vaccination protocols based on your pet’s individual risks. Dogs and cats age more rapidly than people do. For this reason, it is important that your pet have a yearly comprehensive exam.
When a dental cleaning becomes necessary, you will drop your pet off in the morning and pick them up that afternoon. As a thorough and complete dental cleaning requires anesthesia, all the same precautions are taken as with surgery. Dental cleaning involves careful and methodical removal of all tartar using a special ultrasonic hand scaler. Your pet’s teeth, gums and periodontal tissues are closely examined for any defects or abnormalities. Then the teeth are polished and a fluoride treatment is applied. Your pet will leave much healthier with fresh breath when it’s time to go home.
Between our in-house laboratory and the professional reference laboratory we partner with, thorough and complete blood testing can be performed for virtually any problem or scenario. From routine preanesthetic blood testing to evaluation of complicated and/or unusual internal illness, we can obtain vital information in an efficient and timely manner, to better understand your pet’s unique condition, plan their care, and meet their needs.
Wisdom Animal Clinic offers ultrasound services to help diagnose ailments and disease processes in our patients. Ultrasound offers a different “image” or look at certain internal structures and organs than traditional radiography (x-rays). It can be particularly useful in evaluating organs and regions such as the spleen, liver, kidneys, urinary bladder, and gall bladder, as well as allowing us to confirm pregnancy.
A variety of surgical services are offered at Wisdom Animal Clinic, ranging from routine spays, neuters, declaws and dental procedures to more complex abdominal, gastrointestinal, urinary tract and other soft-tissue surgeries. In addition, select orthopedic procedures are offered as well. Our surgical suite is outfitted with up-to-date gas anesthesia and monitoring equipment. While under our care, your pet will receive excellent care and various interventions to help make anesthesia as safe as possible: IV fluid therapy to maintain hydration and blood pressure, and sophisticated monitoring and technician supervision are all standard operating procedure.
We are pleased to offer laser surgery at Wisdom Animal Clinic. Our surgical laser can provide significant benefits compared to a traditional scalpel blade in certain situations (feline declaw, some skin incisions and/or mass removals or ablations, some oral surgery, etc.). The laser cauterizes and seals nerve endings and blood vessels, resulting in less bleeding, swelling, and discomfort. This means a quicker recovery which results in a faster return to normal activity.
Radiography is an important tool in diagnosing both orthopedic and soft tissue conditions such as broken bones, arthritis, lung/chest problems, abdominal/gastrointestinal problems, and bladder stones. With our state of the art digital processor, we are able to obtain results more quickly. Radiography is generally performed while your pet is awake, though in some situations sedation is helpful in reducing discomfort and allowing for accurate positioning during the procedure.
For your convenience and the assurance of your pet’s health with quality medications, Wisdom Animal Clinic maintains a complete pharmacy here at the clinic. We carry a wide array of medicines from antibiotics to heartworm and flea and tick preventatives. We strive to have the medication you need, when you need it.
Wisdom Animal Clinic partners with three other Texarkana area veterinary clinics to rotate emergency duty as a service to our clients. After hours calls are forwarded to an answering service and the veterinarian on call is paged with pertinent information. Emergencies may need to be seen at one of our partnering clinics, depending on which veterinarian is on call.
